Many websites now serve images as WebP because the files are smaller. When you save one, you get a .webp file, and some programs, older editors and upload forms don't know what to do with it.

View a WebP file

  • Any modern browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari) opens WebP: drag the file into a browser window.
  • Windows 10 and 11: the Photos app opens WebP on current versions.
  • Mac: Preview opens WebP on macOS Big Sur and later.

Convert WebP to JPG or PNG

  1. Open WebP to JPG, or WebP to PNG if the image has a transparent background.
  2. Drop in your .webp files, up to 30 at once.
  3. Click Convert and download the results.

Which should you choose?

  • JPG for photos. Much smaller files, accepted everywhere.
  • PNG for logos, stickers, screenshots and anything transparent. JPG would turn transparent areas white.

Animated WebP

WebP can be animated like a GIF. Converting to JPG or PNG keeps only the first frame; convert to GIF instead to keep the animation.
